Fashion Substack's Brightest Share Their 2025 Style Resolutions
A fun and inspiring way to close out the year!
Wow! Can you believe we’ve arrived to the end of 2024?! I know the saying ‘time flies’ is such a cliche but IT BE TRUE! The older I get, the faster time seems to go—especially as a mom who can see her kiddos growing up in real time every day. Sometimes you have to catch your breath from just trying to keep up!
This year has been an incredible one for me, personally. It’s the year I started this Substack and grew this community, literally from scratch day by day, brick by brick! I am so incredibly honored and humbled to be even just a small part of your week, and as I’ve said before but will always say again—I am beyond appreciative for your support this past year! ‘Meeting’ each of you via Substack, chatting in the comments, hearing your POVs and feedback along the way has been invaluable. Not to mention the incredible relationships and budding friendships I’ve built here! I’m full of gratitude today and every day.
I’ve seen some brilliant “wrapped” posts on Substack lately, and I love them! It’s been so fun to read about everyone’s journeys this year and how they’ve each grown as writers and engaged with this community. I continue to learn and be inspired by all of you!
But today, instead of looking back at what a great 2024 it’s been, I thought we’d take a look forward - to 2025! In doing that, I’ve asked some of my favorite fashion Substackers to share their 2025 style resolutions with you all today. And their responses DID. NOT. DISAPPOINT! This post is my little way of saying thank you to them for their thought-provoking writing, kernels of ideas that blossomed into big concepts, and incredible support of my little platform here—all of which have kept me going this year.
I know resolutions are a little bit silly and that so many of us strive to set and accomplish both big & small goals in our lives year-round…but I still do appreciate the “fresh start” that a new year provides. If anything, it’s nice to take the space to reflect and set our intentions for the year ahead.
So without further ado, I’m excited to share the 2025 style resolutions of some of our favorite writers!
, In Moda Veritas
“Derek Guy is the only reason I’m on Twitter. I learn so much from his threads about fit, cut, fabrics, supply chains, and clothing in a socio-historical context. He motivates me to go beyond my craft as a stylist and learn more around the history and context around clothing and getting dressed — and that’s my 2025 style resolution!"
Irene is an innately talented person, who just so happens to excel at fashion. I say this bc in following her and reading her work this year, she is so much more than just a stylist. She provides unique ways of thinking about fashion, the world around us, and how we can better express ourselves in our daily “armor” of clothing—and isn’t that what it’s all about!? I discovered and subscribed to Irene’s incredible newsletter via her below post, where she dives into “non-color” colors that offer depth when styling your wardrobe. I’m such a fan of using color as a styling tool, it instantly grabbed my attention! Take a read here:

“For 2025, my style resolution is to lean into my favorite things—and when my baby is born, to treat myself to some new jeans and an investment piece or two. I also want to find new ways to wear my favorite pieces, like this Miu Miu blazer from The Real Real.”
Liz has been one of my champions on this platform for a while now, which I appreciate a ton! I relate so much to her down-to-earth yet still fresh & fun content. Every time her newsletter lands in my inbox, I smile! One of my absolute favorites was the below post, where she reminds us all that FASHION SHOULD BE FUN! If you missed it, trust me—it’s worth the read.

“My style resolution for 2025 is to curate a wardrobe for the life I have — one where I work from home, walk the dogs, and go out to the occasional, typically low-key dinner. It’s easy to get swept up in the beauty of say, a leather blazer or a pair of embellished heels... but it’s the luxurious knits and everyday denim that I want to stay focused on investing in.”
Such a solid resolution—we should all be dressing and shopping for our real lives. Teresa’s content reminds me, on the daily, that we contain multitudes! I adore her mix of fashion + lifestyle + entertaining content, which in essence provides ideas for how to live our lives simply & beautifully. It’s rare to find someone who can ‘straddle’ fashion + lifestyle content so seamlessly, and she does it with grace, always full of clever ideas. Teresa is also such a girl’s girl; we bonded over our mutual hunt for
’s incredible Sportmax coat several months ago…which she wrote about here!, Essential Reads
“My 2025 style resolution is to get better at curating accessories that fit my personal style. I’m a minimalist at heart, but I recognize how even the simplest accessories can complete an outfit. I often feel like something’s missing when I get dressed and accessories are usually an afterthought, so whether it’s scarves, belts, or jewelry, I want to be able to have a good mix of pieces I can rely on that feel like me.”
da Vinci famously said “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” and I’m thinking maybe da Vinci knew Maria? He had to be talking about her, bc she embodies this adage so perfectly. Her outfits are often Pinterest-level worthy, very clean and minimal, which echoes her easy-to-digest writing style. Her posts are full of helpful “real life” takes that you can apply to your every day life…just like this well-written guide to Black Friday that helped me stay sane—and grounded—in the midst of shopping chaos!

“2025 is bringing with it a lottttt of life changes for me and transition- I'm actually becoming a mother! My resolution for the year is to not let my sense of personal style be connected to my size. I've been a bit more absent [on Substack] lately because as my body is changing, my clothes have become a means to hide behind rather than to express myself. But in the coming year, I am determined to find ways to feel confident and chic in every stage of life. And I want to experiment more with color! The Creative Pragmatist is on my Christmas wishlist, which I hope will teach me how to do this strategically rather than randomly….(thinking of all the randomly colored sweaters and pants I've donated over the years because there was no clear value add to my closet). Ugh and can I add a third resolution? I'm sticking to my clothing budget this year no matter how tempting shiny new things can be!”
CONGRATULATIONS ELLE! So incredibly thrilled for you, and such exciting news! I’ve loved Elle’s content on Substack from the minute I joined. Her writing is so relatable and easy to read, and she has a *serious* crafty side which makes for some excellent DIY fashion inspo! In fact I’m still sitting here, with my credit card in hand, ready to place my beaded necklace order the minute she opens up shop, as she regaled us with in this post:
, Good Talk
“My style resolution for 2025 is to be my own biggest supporter! This year showed me a community of like-minded people (mostly women) who are equally interested in and delighted by fashion and styling as I am — and are enjoying it to the fullest. There is a stigma around enjoying fashion as a hobby and I think a lot of us have been conditioned to associate style/clothes/fashion with vanity or even unintelligence. To me, it's always been a sign of creativity, a mode of expression, and a connection point where I get to meet new inspiring people.”
Julia’s writing always evokes a mix of laughter and tears - in the best way possible. She has such a unique way of approaching fashion, life, and everything in between. I appreciate her honest takes and creative ideas, as well as her willingness to put her personal life out there. The honesty and longing of this post brought me to tears, bc I keenly remember what it was like, not too long ago, to yearn for something that felt so commonplace (like motherhood), yet still so elusive. Julia, you’re so inspiring…!

“When buying ‘new’ pieces in 2025, I want to spend more time seeing if I can find a great alternative via secondhand. I like to shop vintage and resale but only for certain pieces or categories, like bags or preloved designer, and it's not always my immediate first plan when sourcing. There's so much quality from older pieces and I like the idea of owning something that has history, still carries relevancy, and becomes more unique over time. I wouldn't say I'm trying to shop exclusively secondhand, but it's a way for me to continue to hone my personal style POV and shop with intention—but with less focus on instant gratification. To me, that feels like a more modern way to shop than buying and wearing the best of brand new designs.”
Angie is literally one of the most talented stylists I’ve come across on this app. I get so much out of her super practical posts that provide real-life styling guidance and ideas—featuring everything from COS to The Row. In fact, it was her brilliant post on The Row that first caught my eye (and I’m not alone!) earlier this year. I have it bookmarked and refer to it often not only for ideas, but a reminder that we can all turn to styling instead of shopping when in a rut.
, Lindsay Sword Writes
“My 2025 style resolution is Dress Out Loud! I don’t want my clothes to be quiet anything anymore. I want sharp shoulders, bolder silhouettes, more pattern (not just stripes!), brighter colors (trying!), lots of layers, and statement shoes. I remember how I used to love choosing my outfits for school, that frisson of anticipation and potential as I lay out my outfits each night. What might tomorrow bring? Who knows, but I want my style to speak again, to shout happily: hello world, here I am, let’s go!”
Lindsay is a fellow boy mom and fashion lover so I clearly identify with her and her writing deeply! I like the way she delves into a topic and offers multiple compelling ways to consider it—it’s this sort of creative writing that gets me thinking about the possibilities in my wardrobe to evolve my personal style, all while staying true to myself. I really admire her 2025 style resolution bc it’s so refreshing to see someone go bold in a sea of safe neutrals…she even shared some brilliant ideas on dressing out loud earlier this year here:
, TIME LESS
“This year, I really want to focus on shopping my own closet more often. I tend to reach for pieces that are easiest to access, so I want to make a point of rotating items to keep things fresh. To help with this, I want to create a digital catalog of my favorite pieces, keeping them top of mind and making it easier to come up with new looks. As I experiment more, I want to have fun while evolving my personal style, trying out new looks and mixing things up. I’ve been shopping more secondhand and vintage—I love hunting for vintage finds in person, but I’m also discovering a lot of great online retailers, which keeps things interesting and adds a level of sustainability.”
Joyce is an immensely talented creative who has an uncanny knack for putting together the exact looks/ideas/concepts that you’re craving without even knowing it. She’s that good! I devour her content the minute it goes live, bc I know it will not only be useful, but also a feast for the eyes. Her visual attention to detail really makes her newsletter stand out with so much beautiful inspo. I wish I could link to them all, but this one in particular was chock full of goodness!

“I usually set quarterly goals for myself when a new year starts but there are two year-long goals I have in 2025. The first is that I want to vote with my shopping! I plan on becoming more knowledgeable about which stores support the causes I believe in and shop there. The second is a goal I've been working on for *years*, which is to shop quality over quantity. I often search for the less expensive option of the thing I want even if I'm sacrificing quality, but I'm hoping to genuinely turn a new leaf in that. I think many of us find ourselves in the ‘more is better’ camp—and then you buy a high-quality (and often high-price item) and realize it’s so worth it.”

You know when you ‘meet’ someone online and the chemistry just *clicks*? I bet most of us can claim this about Kelly bc she is JUST THAT NICE. Plain and simple. She is thoughtful, engaging, and goes out of her way to be of service in both her writing and her comments. We bonded months ago over our mutual approach to fashion and how we balance motherhood with being ourselves. Kelly’s writing is brilliantly idea-driven, and she’s always providing larger frameworks to bear in mind when getting dressed, like one of my all time favorites: THE VIBE SANDWICH!
, Puck’s Line Sheet (formerly Retail Diary)
“For 2025 I want to continue to push myself to purge more from my closet. I'm not ready to invest in anything else until I really know what I need. Then I want to be honest with my style and only invest in pieces I love, bring me joy and that I don't already have something similar. I've also found rather than buying the thing that reminds me of something else, just buy the thing you love or don't buy it at all.”
First of all, amen to that resolution. Secondly, I could not be MORE EXCITED for what Sarah has accomplished this year. Her move to Puck’s Line Sheet, while sad for us Substackers, is so well-deserved. I know we’re all already gobbling up her insights & wisdom over there, just as we did here. Sarah supported my writing on this platform from Day 1 - I’ll never forget the first time she linked to me in one of her Sunday Scoops—I nearly fainted from the honor. And while she’s not writing on this platform anymore, don’t be fooled! She’s still as active as ever, liking, commenting and restacking her favorite writers like the champion that she is. As much as I want to link to several of her Retail Diary stories here, I won’t, bc she’s onwards and upwards. Instead, I urge you to sign up for a Puck subscription if you haven’t already so you can keep up with her there!
, Hey, Mrs. Solomon
“It’s interesting – last year I made really strong resolutions around shopping but not style. I think many of us do, so I love this question! My style resolution is “be thoughtful; get curious.” I want to experiment more with what I have by being thoughtful about what I buy. I want to get curious about what’s possible by looking for new sources of inspiration and asking questions of myself and others, and by exploring new designers, makers, styles, and approaches. What I think inspires me, too, is that these are resolutions I can apply in other areas of life. I focus a lot on being kind and nonjudgmental (so much judgment around style!) and I think this idea of getting curious helps with that. Like instead of “I don’t like that” – I want to move on to, I wonder why I react as I do, that’s interesting, I wonder how that came together, I wonder how that functions, I wonder about that person.”
Funny enough, I actually crossed paths with the lovely Rachel several years ago in a professional capacity, and was so thrilled to reunite with her here on Substack this year. I love how raw and honest her writing is - she really just tells it like it is. I’m also so impressed with how she shares insights in ways that are both universally relevant AND deeply personal…the kind of revelations that could only come from someone who takes their craft (both fashion and writing) to heart. Her student-as-teacher-as-student mentality makes fashion and style feel more practical and less daunting, esp when you follow her recent advice to “ABMO" as seen in this brilliant post!
And that leaves just little ol’ me! My style resolution for 2025 can be summed up in one word: ENJOY. I want to be less critical of myself, my shopping habits, my fashion mistakes, my personal style and JUST ENJOY myself. If I’ve learned anything from these incredible 12 women above—and so many of you on this platform—it’s that personal style is a constant evolution, and we need to flow where the stream takes us. So often I’ve been down on myself about “spending too much” or “buying the wrong thing” or “trying too hard” that it all tends to feel like a bit of a shame spiral instead of a joy ride. And so that’s my promise to myself in 2025: to enjoy every minute, the good and the bad, the ups and the downs, as all part of the process.
There are SO many more writers who have inspired me this year that I would’ve loved to feature here, but Substack started yelling at me 5 women ago about this post being too long for email already…! Please check out their work and support them if you can:
